The Coopers of New Pitsligo These pages are dedicated to George and Lizzy Cooper and the five of their eleven children that emigrated to Oregon from New Pitsligo Scotland. The oldest son James crossed the plains in 1850 and settled in the Umpqua Valley of Oregon.  Robert got as far as Canada where he was to wait for his sister Anna  before going on to Oregon. By the time Anna met up with him Robert was courting a local lady and was in no hurry to leave. Anna went on by herself, traveling around the horn to meet brother James in Oregon. James and Anna both married children of Ziba  Dimmick who  arrived in the Umpqua Valley in 1853. When Robert  and his new bride immigrated to Oregon they crossed the Isthmus of Panama by coach. David Rose Cooper joined his brother in 1872 and liking what he saw sent for his wife and son back in Holytown, Scotland. Their brother John  Lowden Cooper immigrated to Oregon with his family some time after 1854.
